VLC and mxplayer would display grey the blackbars that appear above and below the movies in 2.35:1 format. Unwatchable for me. Kodi player is good, but not as sharp as the built-in mediaplayer. Just lurking around here as I am still using Emby. Get a dongle to hang off of the tv. Emby sucked on my pretty new LG tv using the webos app. Even with a gpu on the Kubernetes pod being feed from a 10gb connected NAS on a 1gb network it still sucked.

the dimming depends on how bright the static object is (50% white -> no dimming, 60%-100% white -> full dimming) dimming starts after 2 minutes.
