We started our hike to Rifugio Deffeyes from the ski resort of La Thuile. The trail starts with a relatively modest ascent through the tree line, passing 3 waterfalls, then steepens sharply for a total ascent of around 3000 ft. The rifugio is on the small side, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with grand views of the Ruitor glaciers

TH La Thuile - Planibel Hotel is an Alpine-style building offering ski-to-door access in La Thuile ski area. The resort includes shops, boutiques, pubs and ski rental. La posizione la spa ( mancano le bolle) personale gentile
Aosta is a lovely place, but very much a town and not what most people would see as a ski resort. Interski take school groups to both resorts at holiday times - many more in Pila than La Thuile. Only 'problem' with La Thuile is that cold wind. Was bad even at Easter a couple of years ago, but I've been there at Xmas and it wasn't a problem.
