Aug 2022. Climbed the Stelvio from two sides, first from Bormio over the Umbrail Pass. Then we charged downhill and across a wonderful valley in Switzerland and back up via Prado. The climb was brutal but the achievement of negotiating the 88 hairpin bends was so worthwhile.
Passo di Gavia is a beauty of a cycling climb. It’s got the immense scenery and grandeur of the Passo dello Stelvio but less of the traffic. At 2,621m it’s not quite as high as the Stelvio, but it’s still the tenth highest paved mountain pass in Europe and with testing 8% average gradients the Gavia Pass profile is undoubtedly challenging.
Trentino & South Tyrol. Home to the spectacular sawtoothed Dolomites, the semi-autonomous provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol are packed with stunning landscapes. The region has long enticed hikers, climbers, poets and fresh-air fanciers, with the scenic Sella Ronda remaining one of the world's most iconic skiing and cycling circuits.

The Stelvio Pass. The Stelvio Pass, at 2760 m (9045 feet) is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, slightly below the Col de l’Iseran (2770 m, 9088 feet). Perhaps made famous by the Top Gear team in their quest for the best driving road. Not the prettiest road, in fact barren in places, but Z5Lp7Rj.
